The Council of Labor Affairs announced Aug. 17 a new measure aimed at further guaranteeing the right to work of foreign spouses living in Taiwan. From Aug. 20, a foreign spouse whose marriage to an ROC national ends due to divorce or death and who has received approval from the National Immigration Agency to continue residing in Taiwan will no longer have to apply for a permit to work in the country, according to the council.
A National Tsing Hua University research team has verified through experimentation that nanospace confinement can be used to investigate interactions between proteins and surface water molecules, the university said Aug. 17. Led by Chiang Yun-wei, an assistant professor in the university’s Department of Chemistry, the team’s research was published in PNAS, a prestigious U.S.-based biweekly journal covering biological, physical and social sciences Aug. 15. The university said this represents a rare example of work by a Taiwan research team without international cooperation being published in a leading international journal. (SB)
